What’s actually true (and not mainstream)

Most diabetes advice stops at carb counting. Here’s what that misses — and what Betacell is built around.

Carb ≠ carb

A label says “20g carbs.” But 20g from a bowl of rice and 20g from cauliflower are not the same thing. Starches break down fast and spike your glucose. Non-starchy vegetables barely move it. The number on the label is not the number on your meter.

You do need to dose for protein

Standard advice says you don’t need insulin for protein. That’s wrong. About half the protein you eat converts to glucose over several hours. A big steak with no insulin means a slow, late spike you didn’t plan for. Betacell shows that curve.

Smaller meals, smaller mistakes

Dr. Richard Bernstein’s “law of small numbers”: a small meal needs a small dose, and a small dose has a small margin of error. A 90g-carb meal with a 12u bolus can be off by a lot. A 15g meal with a 2u dose can’t. The math works in your favor when the numbers stay small.
